There are many special moments that will happen on your wedding day, and it’s important that your photographer is there to capture as many of them as possible. Here we’ve listed 10 of our favorite photo moments of the big day.
1. The First Look
The ‘First Look’ photo has become pretty iconic over the years. The reason being that there is a lot of emotion to be captured when one member of the wedding couple sees the other in full wedding attire for the first time. It’s also a great moment to capture the couple on their own before the busyness of the wedding ceremony and reception start.
2. The Wedding Dress
There will be lots of shots throughout the day of the bride in her wedding dress. However, it’s important to also get photos of the different details of the dress, either on the bride or before she puts it on. Close-up shots of the beadwork, embroidery, and/or lace detail will help show off the unique beauty of the dress.
3. The Bridesmaids Getting Ready
Photos of the wedding party getting ready will be cherished forever by the bride and groom. Make sure that you get photos of the bride getting zipped into her dress, as well as the bridesmaids getting their hair and makeup done. A lot of candid moments can be captured if you are able to have access to the bridesmaids and groomsmen getting themselves ready for the wedding ceremony.
4. The Wedding Venue
A lot of photographers forget to capture shots of the wedding venue before the ceremony and reception start. A lot of time and money went into selecting the venue and all the decorative details so it’s a good idea to take some photos of the ceremony site, flowers, interior and exterior decorations.
5. The First Kiss
Obviously, this is one of the most important photos of the entire wedding ceremony. Make sure that you are able to get a good, unobstructed view of the couple without getting in the way of the wedding party and/or other ceremony attendees. You’ll also want to make sure that you ask the ceremony officiant to step out of the shot so that you can just capture the happy couple.
6. The Ceremony Exit
Some professional photographers overlook this important moment of the wedding ceremony. Capturing the just-wedded couple as they exit the altar/ceremony site will help you memorialize one of the happiest moments in the new couples’ lives. The pure happiness on the faces of the just-wedded couple will show as they walk back down the aisle together.
7. The First Dance
The couple’s first dance is a great opportunity to capture candid moments between the newlyweds. The dance is not a super structured part of the wedding reception, and allows the couple to relax and enjoy each other’s company.
8. Father/Daughter & Mother/Son Dances
The father/daughter and mother/son dances are often some of the most emotional moments of the entire wedding reception. They are another great opportunity to capture candid moments during the wedding.
9. The Wedding Toasts
While the toasts are going on, you’ll want to get photos of the newlyweds, those giving the toasts, as well as other reception attendees. That way, you’ll be able to capture plenty of laughs, tears, and other emotions. These more candid photos will be treasured for many many years to come!
10. The Wedding Cake
Most photographers get a photo of the wedding couple cutting into their cake (and feeding each other). But, it’s also important to get a photo of the cake before it gets cut into. After all, who doesn’t love a good food photo?
These are just a few of the unforgettable photo moments that take place during the average wedding day. When preparing for your big day, make sure that you discuss your desired shot list with your photographer so that he/she captures all of the most essential parts of your wedding.
